Peru’s energy ministry has contracted for 150,000 solar panels to serve thousands of remote population centers nationwide that don’t have access to the traditional grid. The first 2,000 will be running by August, with the remaining to be operating within 12 months. By 2018, Peru expects to power a half a million rural households and 2,000 schools with solar panels.
